Kathmandu — The Nepali film “Bhagdoud”, a social drama centered on human greed and ethical dilemmas, is set to hit theatres on June 26. The production team announced the release date on Tuesday alongside two newly unveiled posters featuring the film’s principal cast.
Written and directed by Himal Upreti, the film stars Anisha Shrestha, Ghanshyam Joshi, Sharda Rai (Sara), Bishal Pokharel, Shekhar Chapagain, Deshbhakta Khanal, Laxmi Giri, Shankar Maharjan and Subash Timilsina, among others.
According to director Upreti, the film examines how greed, manipulation, deceit and fraud can push individuals into moral crisis. Through its narrative, “Bhagdoud” aims to reflect on the consequences of unchecked self-interest and the erosion of trust and values in society.
Set against the backdrop of Bungamati, one of Kathmandu Valley’s historic Newar settlements, and the surrounding areas of the Bagmati River, the film also highlights Nepal’s rich cultural heritage. Presenter Bishwaram Bista said the story portrays Bungamati’s ancient civilization, Newar art and traditions, and the coexistence of diverse communities including Newars, Brahmins and Chhetris. It further explores the balance between preserving traditional practices and adapting to modern lifestyles.
Presented by Bishwaram Bista and produced under the banner of Supreme Music & Films Pvt. Ltd., the film lists Angira Thapa as executive producer, while Bhupendra Kumar Khadka, Sagar Puri and Suresh Giri serve as co-producers.
The technical team includes cinematographer Deepak Bajracharya, editor Prabin Dhakal, and music composers Basanta Sapkota and Prakash Nepali. National Cine Group Nepal will handle the film’s nationwide distribution.
