Kathmandu: Actor and singer Riyan Giri has officially signed on to play the lead role in director Baliram Chauhan’s upcoming Nepali film ‘Lyang Lyang’.
The production team announced Giri’s casting on Monday, marking the occasion of Nepal’s National Paddy Day and the traditional Dahi-Chiura festival.
Riyan made his acting debut with ‘Hostel–3’ and has also established himself as a singer, lending his voice to several songs.
Director Baliram Chauhan said Giri was selected because he perfectly matches the central character in the story. “We signed Riyan for the lead role as he fits the character we envisioned for the film,” he said.
Following his directorial debut with ‘The Blue Light’, which received positive critical reviews last year, Chauhan is now preparing for ‘Lyang Lyang’. After unveiling the film’s title and theme poster earlier, the production has moved into the casting phase, with discussions ongoing with other actors and technical crew members.
Presented by Skyfall Pictures, ‘Lyang Lyang’ carries the tagline “Every Youth’s Story,” highlighting its focus on the experiences, relationships, and emotions of the younger generation. In colloquial Nepali, the phrase “Lyanga Lyanga” refers to persistent nagging, repeated pressure, or emotional frustration.
The previously released theme poster, featuring the line “A promise to keep and a purpose to live—that is all life is about,” hints at an emotional story centered on a young man dealing with heartbreak.
The screenplay has been written by Baliram Chauhan and Upshree Khatiwada.
Chauhan’s debut film ‘The Blue Light’ earned favorable reviews from critics. However, due to the election atmosphere at the time, the film was withdrawn from theaters on its third day of release.
