Kathmandu: Veteran Nepali filmmaker Krishna Chapagain has passed away following a heart attack, leaving the Nepali film fraternity in mourning.
Chapagain, who had been living in the United States with his family for several years, reportedly suffered a heart attack three days ago and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Cambridge Health Alliance Everett Hospital in Boston. Nepali artists residing in the U.S. confirmed that he passed away on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment.
A respected figure in the Nepali film industry, Chapagain made significant contributions as a director, writer, and producer. He was associated with films including Ek Nazar, Didi Bhai, Chattan, Ijjatdar, Diwanapan, and Nikhil Dai, handling writing, production, and direction responsibilities.
Beyond filmmaking, he also operated the Chapagain Shooting Studio in Jorpati, Kathmandu, which played an important role in supporting Nepali film productions during its time.
With his passing, the Nepali film industry has lost a seasoned creative personality whose contributions will be remembered for years to come.
