The Film Development Board of Nepal has decided to provide incentive grants to support the upgrading, reopening, and audience growth of cinema halls, including single-screen theaters, across the country. The initiative aims to promote domestic films and expand the national film market.
According to a notice published on February 5, 2026 (Magh 23, 2082 BS), eligible cinema operators must submit an application using the board-approved format along with required documents within seven days at the Film Development Board office.
The notice states that cinema halls located outside the Kathmandu Valley, especially those that have been closed due to various reasons and are seeking to resume operations, will be given priority. Additional preference will be given to standalone theaters located outside commercial malls, historic and old cinema halls, and theaters situated in high population-density areas.
Operational cinema halls must have implemented an e-ticketing (box office) system and regularly submitted data to the Board’s Central Cinema Management System (CCMS). Priority will also be given to theaters that have timely paid all applicable government revenues, including film development fees, VAT, and entertainment tax.
Application forms can be obtained from the Film Development Board office or downloaded from the Board’s official website. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
As this program is a continuation of the previous fiscal year’s initiative, cinema halls that already applied under last year’s notice are not required to reapply.
The program is being viewed as a significant government effort to revitalize cinema halls and strengthen Nepal’s film industry.
