Kathmandu – After receiving strong audience appreciation since its release, Nepali film “Roll No. 1” is now beginning to translate positive word-of-mouth into box office success.
Several cinema halls have reported shows selling out more than 24 hours in advance, while others are rapidly filling up. The growing demand has been fueled in part by schools booking entire screenings and taking students to watch the film.
Producer Binod Poudel said the overwhelmingly positive audience response is now having a visible impact on the film’s commercial performance.
“The positive word-of-mouth surrounding the film has started working in our favor. A number of schools have begun bringing their students to watch the movie, which is why some shows were already sold out a day before screening,” Poudel said.
According to the production team, attendance has been steadily increasing as viewers describe the film as a must-watch for students, teachers and parents alike.
“People are recommending the film to others after watching it. As more viewers hear about its message and quality, the audience numbers continue to grow,” Poudel added.
Poudel’s previous blockbuster “Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi” also gained momentum through positive audience feedback and began recording housefull shows from its fourth day of release. The film eventually achieved historic box office earnings after schools and community groups organized group screenings.
Produced under the Seven Seas Cinema banner and directed by John Yonjan, “Roll No. 1” stars Mukun Bhusal, Sushank Mainali, Renu Nath Yogi, Evan Raj Upreti and Sirjana Adhikari in lead roles. Child actors Nirvik Regmi, Rinchen Lama, Sanyam Katuwal and Sijal Shrestha also play key roles.
The film is produced by Binod Poudel and Janvi Poudel, with Chhatramaya Giri and Ramesh Chaulagain serving as co-producers. Written by Mahesh Dawadi and shot by cinematographer Shivaram Shrestha, “Roll No. 1” is currently screening in theaters across Nepal.
