After 6 Months, Daya Returns to Theaters: Will ‘Karsang’ Build Legacy or Just Add to Numbers?

After ‘Loot’ and the subsequent ‘Kabaddi’ series became top choices for audiences and filmmakers, Dayahang played in a large number of films.

Over time, as some of his movies did not consistently perform well, he faced criticism similar to that directed at Rajesh Hamal when discussing Nepali cinema. The accusation is playing in numerous films, leading only to quantity, not quality improvement. Both Daya and Rajesh have their own defensive arguments regarding this.

Due to acting in many films, several of Dayahang’s movies were released around the same date. His movies often come out almost every month, leaving audiences wondering which ones to watch and which to skip.

Dayahang was last seen in the film ‘Gharjwai,’ which released on Asar 28 (Nepali calendar). Since then, five months have passed without any new release. Now, his new film ‘Karsang’ is set to release on Poush 26.

This interval is seen as a move towards fewer films, and there is anticipation that ‘Karsang’ will perform well in theaters due to this gap.

The film’s producers and distributors hope it will continue the success of ‘Gharjwai.’ In the movie, Daya plays a responsible family guardian in a rural setting. His character faces challenges in preserving his cultural traditions amidst poverty and hardship.

The film’s teaser has already been released. It portrays how honest and underprivileged people in society are marginalized by their own communities and relatives. ‘Karsang’ allows viewers to experience the cultural and social aspects of the Sherpa community more than just the story of typical Nepali poverty.

Dayahang is known for appearing in films with original stories rather than glossy or commercial narratives. This time, he is bringing the story of the Sherpa community to audiences, making it potentially appealing.

‘Karsang’ is directed by debutant director Yam Sherpa, who also wrote the story.

Along with actor Dayahang Rai, the film features Srijana Ninglekhu, Jeetu Nepal, Diya Maskey, Buddhi Tamang, Srishti Gautam, Doma Hyolmo, Prem Lopchan, and Surveer Pandit, among others. This is Srijana Ninglekhu’s debut film.

Produced under Yarsa Films and Purushottam Pradhan Films, the film’s cinematographer is Purushottam Pradhan, who is also the producer. The co-producer is Govinda Bohora, and the executive producer is Angchiring Sherpa.
